All for the Gators

The Gator Chomp is easily the most recognizable tradition for Florida, and one of the most recognizable in all of college sports. While the chomp is traditionally used when the band plays the Jaws theme song before every kickoff, it is also used after big plays, after a win or just because you feel like chomping. It is often used to taunt opposing fans and is always executed right arm over left.

With the stadium split in half, the east side of the stadium, which includes the student section, chant ORANGE with a return of BLUE coming from the west side of the stadium. Most commonly used during UF football and basketball games.

Two Bits,

Six Bits,
a Dollar;
All for the Gators, stand up and holler!
(Three large arm circles with your right arm ending by reaching your arm straight up in the air to end.)

Tradition: This cheer is said before the start of each home football game.

Florida, our Alma Mater,
thy glorious name we praise.
All thy loyal sons and daughters,
a joyous song shall raise.
Where palm and pine are blowing,
where southern seas are flowing,
Shine forth thy noble gothic walls,
thy lovely vine clad halls.
Neath the orange and blue victorious, (throw right arm in the air)
our love shall never fail.
There’s no other name so glorious, (throw right arm in the air)
all hail, Florida, hail!

Tradition: the alma mater is performed at commencements and after home football wins with the whole team, coaching staff, fans and the band.

We are the boys from old Florida
F-L-O-R-I-D-A
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest
Of any old state down our way (shout “hey”)
We are all strong for old Florida
Down where the old Gators play (shout “Go Gators” and throw right arm in the air)

Tradition: One of the longest running and most beloved Gator traditions happens after the third quarter of every home game. Gator Fans stand up, throw their arms around their neighbors’ shoulders and sing “We are the Boys” while swaying left to right.

So give a cheer for the Orange and Blue
Waving Forever!
Forever pride of Old Florida,
May she droop never.
We’ll sing a song for the flag today,
Cheer for the team at play!
On to the goal,
We’ll fight our way for
Flor-i-da!
