Support Healthy Behaviors

We are in this together and working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is a shared responsibility. The Gator community cares for and supports each other.

In June, a University of Florida research team conducted a survey on healthy behaviors. More than 11,000 UF students, faculty and staff participated and provided insight into the preventative behaviors they are adopting to support the community.

We have all seen the news clips of college-aged bar-goers piled into crowded watering holes. And that is a real risk with possibly life-threatening consequences. But it is not the whole picture.

From our survey, we know:

  • 95% of students indicated that the reason they wear a face covering is to protect the health of others.
  • 88% of students plan to wear a face covering while out in public.
  • 87% of students report that they deliberately put physical distance between themselves and others .

In fact, the top reason students report not wearing face coverings is because they forgot it. UF is will be distributing free masks in the Gator Care Kits and will have masks available for purchase throughout campus, but peer support is critical. Together, we can help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus on our campus by having honest conversations about risk.
