What is the Gator Challenge?

Welcome to the Great Gator Welcome’s Campus Discovery Tour. The University of Florida is a big place with lots of interesting stories and traditions. Around every corner may be a new place you never knew existed or might even be a landmark to be your guide in finding a nearby campus resource. Plus, these spots are perfect for a selfie or that subtle brag that you are a UF Gator.
 

How does it work?

Don’t overthink it. It’s pretty simple. From January 6 to January 18, there will be bright blue Campus Discovery signs across campus. You will have the opportunity to explore several different iconic campus locations considered a must-see by your fellow UF students. From the famous “French Fries” and Turlington Plaza to more hidden campus gems, we’re sure you’ll find a spot on campus to call home. At many of the locations, there will be QR codes for you to scan which will let you learn more about these amazing campus spots.
 

Why should I participate?

Besides being able to brag that you are a UF Gator you mean? We got you. On January 6, 2021 from 1-4 PM there will be a few Campus Discovery Flash Events where you can create and develop your own UF swag!

But there is more! Many of these locations are connected to the Class of 2024 F-Book the Official Traditions Guide for the University of Florida. By logging your traditions early you will be well on your way to earning your Traditions Keeper Medal from the UF Alumni Association.
 

Who should I discover campus with?

With everything going on we know it is important to balance healthy behaviors to reduce the spread of Covid-19 while also finding responsible ways to discover your own UF community. We recommend exploring groups with 2-4 people. This is a time to get to know your roommate or suitemates better. To reduce the spread of Covid-19 it is important to stick with a close group of individuals, think about this as your QuaranTeam.

Students should also always have their face covering handy when physical distancing is not possible outdoors and remember if you decide to explore a campus resource indoors face coverings are mandatory in all UF spaces. If you visit a space and many students are present be sure to give enough space and time for everyone to discover the different locations.
 

How can I find my exploration team?

Below are a few tips to help you discover your exploration team.

• Your Roommate or suitemates are perfect for this experience. The goal is to find your QuaranTeam in the first few days to help stay socially connected but physically distanced. Plus it is really hard to take a high-quality selfie or picture with more than 2-4 people.
• If your roommate or suitemates have not moved in yet fellow residents on your floor are a great group to reach out to as well! For students living on campus feel free to ask your Resident Assistant if they know anyone who is participating.
