This experimental printmaking technique was developed by Surrealist artists. Join Mariana from the Reitz Union Arts & Crafts Center to learn how to create beautiful abstract designs on paper by floating colored dusts on water.

You will need:

• Chalk pastels, charcoal, Conte crayon, and/or spices (turmeric, paprika)
• Sandpaper (optional but useful for creating dust)
• Brush (any kind of small brush will work, you will use it to collect the dust)
•  Pan with 1” tap water
• Heavyweight paper cut to fit your baking sheet or pan (watercolor paper is ideal but any paper that is heavy enough to withstand a soaking will work)
• Newsprint or newspaper or an old towel to dry your prints
